A sunset elopement on the Great Ocean Road

Hannah and Lachlan eloped in February with two friends as witnesses and a thermos of tea for afterwards. We said the words on the clifftop an hour before sunset. The waves were loud enough that I brought out the little speaker, and they signed on a flat rock while the light went gold.

Then they walked down to the beach between the sea stacks while their friends poured the tea. “Nell found the spot, checked the permit and still made us both cry,” Hannah wrote to me the next week. If you’re dreaming of the same coast, ask me early: those clifftops need a permit, and I’ll help with the form.
